• What a super fun and super busy day we had!  It was a TRUE “Family Fun” Day!

2008_09_06_0018 We started at 9:00 am with Neal’s 1st Soccer Game of the season.  New coach, new kids on the team … we are really excited for this season!

We’re lucky to have our cousin, Dayton, on the team!

We ended the day at the Utah/UNLV football game.  We enjoyed the first home game of the season and fireworks!

The Utes won (yeah!) But mostly, it was our family that won being able to spend so much time enjoying each other!Amber

  • 1.  Riley is NOT, I repeat NOT allergic to bee stings!  How do we know this?  He and his cousin Ethan were throwing rocks at my parent's fence.  Unfortunately, there was a beehive at the bottom of the fence and the bees did not appreciate having rocks thrown at their home.  Here's what happened:

    • The bees came out mad and stung the boys.
    • The boys ran in my parents home screaming.
    • While trying to figure out why the boys were screaming, Riley announces "they're crawling all over me!"
    • My dad took off Riley's shirt and released the stuck bees.
    • To thank him, they stung both he and my mom.
    • After killing the rest of the bees, there was finally time to assess the damage:  Riley – 6 bee stings, Ethan – 2 bee stings, mom – 1 bee sting, dad – 1 bee sting.

This was Riley's first bee sting.  Aren't we lucky that he's not allergic!  It could have been a really scary situation, rather than a mildly funny one.

    2.  The best way to not get in trouble for throwing rocks at the fence?  Get stung by six bees!2008_08_31_0001

    3.  I'm not good at waxing my legs!  Actually, I just can't read  directions properly and that is apparently a bad thing when you are trying to wax your legs!  (update: I now have a rash to match my beautiful bruises!  I guess I'M allergic!)  Oh, well, they'll heal … I guess that's what vanity will get me!Amber

  • 2008_08_28_0009 Last summer I had to buy a new quilt.  My other one was toast!  There were holes in it and everything.  I found a really cute one on sale at Pottery Barn and purchased it.  When I got it in our room it reminded me of a hotel quilt.  What was I to do?  I couldn’t find anything I liked better, so I kept it.  Then, a couple of weeks ago we were shopping at Target and what did I come across?  The perfect bed spread!  It’s just what I was looking for!  I love the shimmer in the fabric!  Now I just need a Ambernew rug!

I can’t believe this “little one” is in 2nd grade.  Where has the time gone?  I swear it was just yesterday I was puking, receiving IV’s and passing out (literally) in anticipation of this sweet, beautiful boy!

He is so thrilled for this year!  He got the teacher he wanted and has a lot of friends in his class.  In fact, two of the three girls pictured are also in his class.  I’m excited too!

It’s only two more years until these two little guys go, it will be here before I know it!

  • Last night for Young Women we held our “2nd Annual Back to School Night”.  Last year the girls went to Seminary, Gym, Math & Driver’s Ed (the girls raced small tricycles).  This year the girls went to English, Home Economics, Science & Lunch.  I was the Science Teacher.

    2008_08_27_0035

In “Science” class, the girls took a quiz on what was “botanically” a fruit and what was a “botanically” a vegetable (you might be surprised.  Look here).  Then we created …

    Mallow Monsters:

    and Bubble Bombs:

After much anticipation, unfortunately, our bomb was a small “poof” instead of a large “BANG!”  (I forgot to have the girls shake the bag!  That’s apparently a VERY important part of the experiment!)

  • TwilightSo, my plan to be the perfect mom, look good in my jeans, not sleep and get everything done won't work.  There are flaws.  BIG flaws.  My friend, Natasha, made a really good point … what about Lake Powell?  I don't know, can being all sparkly be all that bad?  Imagine the tricks I could perform on skis!  I could handle that.

Here's the deal breaker:  What about my tan?  I've been good at being safe{r} with my skin.  I no longer lay out on the trampoline with Crisco on since I've become a mom, but can I give it up a tan all together?

Since I can't be a vampire, I've been thinking, I HAVE had an Edward.

    My Edward:

Alta Christmas Dance 1991 His name was Ryan (he was killed in a car wreck in 1994).

Do you like the pegged legs on Ryan's pants?  What about my Air Jordans?  And, yes, that IS my attempt at a "Utah Claw".  I know you know what I'm talking about!

    Ryan note

Ryan wrote me love notes and used "fluffy" words (his hand writing looks like Edward's, see pg. 86 in Eclipse)

He dated only me while I dated others or I made him go out with other girls because I didn't want to have a "steady" Alta Christmas Dance 1990boyfriend in High School.  He put up with all my rules, kept coming back for more and loved me for me.

Like I've said before, I do not think Edward is perfect, nor was Ryan.  However, there is always a tender spot for my High School love.

Speaking of Edward, do you want to read the first chapter of Midnight Sun (the book written from his perspective)?  http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html  I wasn't sure I would want to read this book, but I have to admit that I'm hooked!  Stephanie, I want to know Edward's thoughts!

Thanks for sharing this with me Chelsea!  I just had a thought!  What about fake tanning lotion?  Do you think it will work on vampires?Amber

p.s. I found some really funny stuff while looking through my scrapbook for these pictures.  I'll share some of it with you later.
