2009_05_09__00232009_05_09__0026   So, Neal can earn an “arrow” for scouts if he grows a garden.  It doesn’t say what size, just a garden.  The other day we went to the nursery and bought 4 tomato plants:

  • BIG Beef
  • Super Sweet 100 (Cherry)
  • Orange
  • Taxi (Yellow)

and two pepper plants:

  • Red
  • Orange

(We believe in colorful gardens and salsa!)  I helped him plant his “garden” last Saturday.

When he was finished, he went and played with our backyard neighbor.  While playing, he threw a basketball over the fence.  It landed right on top of BIG Beef and snapped it off!  Well, Riley thought that was so funny that he started throwing balls at the tomato plants on purpose and killed the Super Sweet 100.

I think they’ll grow back, but it will be a couple of weeks until we know for sure and I don’t want to be 2 weeks behind.  So, today we went back to the nursery and bought new plants to replace the dead plants.  We’ll plant them on Saturday.  As protection, I’ll put the Amberbody guards up (cages) even though the plants are not big enough yet to need them!!!

that is soo cute. I am not a gardner at all.
My Mom has the green thumb in our family. When I have had to be in the hospital,if I get green plants, I just give them to her. Because they will die if I take them home!!
Good luck with the garden and I hope he earns his badge.

What a great activity to do with your son. I’m sure it’s a memory he’ll cherish.
