Dear Friends,

I’m composing a list of "must take" Christmas photos for Good Things Utah.

Will you email me (or make a comment on my blog) your favorite traditions or "must take" pics?

Thanks!  Amber

My favorite pictures to take are before Christmas when we are decorating. We made a gingerbread train and the look on my sons face and we did it was priceless. I love taking pictures also of when they are walking into the room on Christmas morning and to see how excited he gets at what Santa brought. I hope this helps

I have several pictures that I take the same every year. We always open pajamas the night before Christmas so we always take a picture of everyone in their new pj’s. Another pic we take is of the tree after Santa has come before the girls get up (actually right after Santa finishes leaving everything) Then the next day after everything is opened and the mess all around. Also, we always decorate cookies for Santa, so I take pictures of that. I’ll think on it and see if I remember any others. Hope this helps.

    Hi Amber,
I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for or not but one of my favorite traditions at christmas was how my mom did the presents on christmas morning.
To make it last longer she would write a number on the package so we had to search for it in order to find out who the package was for.
For example, I was the sixth child so on my presents she would write a little “6” and then one by one we would pick the presents and search for the number and then give it to the person that it belonged to. Oh the anticipation in each of us waiting for find out if it was one of ours or not. Once we found the number, that person would open their present and the others would watch.
It was one way to make Christmas last longer.
    I hope this helps!

Tree hunt, chopping down the tree (last year, in the mud!), getting it home, up and decorated
    Making the gingerbread house
    Pictures with Santa
    Baking cookies
Setting out stockings on Christmas Eve
Santa’s plate of cookies before and after he consumes them
    Children sleeping in bed
    Opening Christmas gifts
Christmas meal prep – 2 years ago I took pictures of where everyone always is during the dinner preparation (we are always at my parents’ home – my Mom is stressed in the kitchen – my Dad stands behind at the ready – their cat, Max, sits in wait for tiny morsels – my husband is alseep on the sofa in the midst of tons of noise of games being played – you get the idea)
    Opening Christmas crackers

I think if you have a newborn baby it is essential to take a photo of him/her resting in a hand that looks like Santa’s glove and sleeve cuff.
The baby inside of a stocking!
Photo of the living room floor around the tree BEFORE the unwrapping and after!

We do a gingerbread house party every year with all of my daughters friends. AND we do a book a day throughout December… so I wrap 25 books December 1st and each day my kids open a book and we read it has a bedtime story… or as an afterschool entertainment. So I have a lot of pictures of us reading together AND – A LOT of pictures of Marin and her friends thoughout the years (we started when she was 3!!) with her gingerbread house party!
    GOOD LUCK!!
