• 6 months after reserving our lot…

4 months after moving from our house…

    We have a hole!

On Thursday, we met the agent from Candlelight and our foreman to make sure that where they had the stakes was where we would like our home.  It was fun!  We could see the entire outline of the house on our property.  It was also cold and windy but we knew this was possibly the last day that we would have a lot with nothing on it.

    2012_01_26_0009

We were told that they would dig the hole either Friday or Monday.  We got a call from my friend, Tamara, saying that the back hoe was on our lot ready to go.

We waited until we were all home so that we could go out together.  It’s funny to think we are so excited about a hole.  But, it’s OUR hole!

Inside that hole, they are going to build a rambler – OUR home!  I’m excited to share with you some of the fun things our builder is doing to help us make our house as unique and individual as we are!

They are pouring our footings tomorrow morning – we’ll have a foundation by the end of the week.  This ride is just getting going!

I decided tonight that I need to keep track of what they did and when so that we will have a good record to look back on.  Wish me luck!

Bryan and I spoke in sacrament meeting yesterday (our main meeting).  Our topic was service.  I shared some of the lessons I’ve learned about serving – mainly through the times that I didn’t perform as well as I should.  I love speaking in church – don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to do it every week, but I love what I gain from the preparation.  I am spiritually fed.  I shared a recount from one of my favorite conference talks about a statue of Christ that was destroyed in WWII and what the town did when they restored it.  You can find the story here.

I’ve had a busy month creating (the April Hobby Lobby Ad) and designing getting the My Mind’s Eye guys ready for CHA.  I’ll share my CHA layouts with you soon!clip_image001

    Happy Monday!

  • While the My Mind’s Eye 6×6 paper pads ARE perfect cards (yeah), they are also the perfect for cone wreaths.

Normally when you make a cone wreath, you cut down 12 x 12 papers or old music paper to 6×6.

But, with just TWO 6×6 pads, some of our gorgeous trims and brads with some doilies thrown in for good measure, you have everything you need to make this “love”ly wreath.

When I designed the wreath, I used two Lost & Found – Madison Avenue 6×6 pads. I demonstrated this project today on Good Things Utah using the Lost & Found 2 – Blush pad.  FYI: the Love Me 6×6 pads would be darling, too.

I have included the instructions here:  Download 2012_01_10_MME_Love Wreath_cone

I will upload the segment here when it is ready this afternoon. (Here it is – wink)

This project is quick and easy to make. With the fabulous variety of 6×6 pads My Mind’s Eye offers, there is something for every occasion through out the year! clip_image001

p.s. Guess what awesome thing is happening today?  Our plans are being submitted to the city.  I was so excited when I heard that I started to cry!

  • I spent a good chunk of the day last Thursday randomly selecting the winners for the MME blog and it just donned on me that I didn’t draw the winner for my blog!  So… I think that I will need to draw TWO winners to make up for it!

    1. Christina!

I ALWAYS find value in what you post! You are a very inspirational person. Thank you for sharing something so personal and for all that you do!

Didn’t win a kit, but want one?

Because I worry about being prepared, I prepped extra kits for the event (like 25 – you know, just in case I made a mistake on 25 kits Winking smile.  It’s better to be over prepared, right?).  I actually still have about 18 kits.  They are available to purchase if you’d like to purchase one (or two).

They are $25 per kit (price does not include shipping).  Each kit includes everything needed to create 2 – two page layouts:

    • My Mind’s Eye Crochet trim

  • Welcome to the My Mind’s Eye 2011 Holiday Hoopla blog hop! My name is Amber Packer. I am the My Mind's Eye design team lead. I am also a wife, mother and friend and am so very humbled at the opportunities I have.

If you came to my blog from the My Mind's Eye blog then you are on the right track.  If you came to visit me (thank you!) and haven’t been participating in the hop… take a minute and hop over to the My Mind’s Eye blog so you can play with us!

My contribution to the secret phrase is: Wishing YOU

As 2011 is nearing a close, we thought we would share with you our favorite projects from the past year. With products from My Mind's Eye to work with, I love most every project. However, with the passing of my grandpa this past year, I have had the chance to reflect upon the importance of this hobby we share. It is a legacy we are leaving those who come behind us.

That being said, I am going to share with you two layouts I created about two of my Grandparents. I hope they share a little of who they are with those who didn't know them in this life.

From my blog, you will now visit Jana's blog.

I hope you take the time to comment on each blog you visited on your way here.  Remember to leave a comment on the My Mind’s Eye blog and email the secret phrase to amber@mymindseye.com (that’s me).

Since this is the season of giving, I want to offer a special Christmas giveaway from me to you!  I'm going to giveaway one kit that includes both of the two-page layouts I taught at Inspiration Unlimited.

My drawing will end when the MME blog hop does, midnight, December 28.  Good luck!

I hope you enjoyed your stop here.  Look around.  I hope you'll find clip_image001value in what I have written.  Happy Holidays!

  • No excuses… but an apology!  I forgot that I had the original file on the external hard drive that died.  We are close to having the files recovered, but I had to recreate it so that I could put it up.  I’m sorry that I didn’t get it up before today.

It’s REALLY simple.  Go to the dollar store or craft store since there are great buys this time of year and purchase some cute, simple frames.  Spray paint them white or keep them as is – your choice!

Then you are going to print this file (choose 5 x 7 or 8 x 10):

Download Hosanna word art_Amber Packer 2010_5x7

Download Hosanna word art_Amber Packer 2010_8x10

These words come from one of my favorite Christmas songs – a bonus for me every time I look at it!

Tie a cute ribbon and tag around and you have a cute, easy and fairly inexpensive gift!Amber

  • It’s here – the time of year where I waver between having a comfortable “I’m almost done” feeling and a feeling of panic when I realize that even though I thought I was almost done, I have realized all the things I have forgotten.  I am blessed in so many ways, one of which is with spectacular friends.  Unfortunately, I have not planned in advance and am quickly running out of time to come up with something as spectacular as my friends.

I love the style of jewelry today – eclectic, feminine and fun with lots of ruffles and glitz!  I thought about going to a jewelry store to find something special and then I started thinking of the fabulous Lost & Found 2 trims!

Guess what!?  They make fabulous flowers for use on layouts, why not use them for jewelry?

I went to my local Hobby Lobby (Michaels, Joann’s or a jewelry store will work too) and picked up some blank adjustable rings with a flat top, flat circles for necklaces (and small ones for earrings), a bangle bracelet and bobby pins with a flat top.

Then I got to work: twisting and gluing; stitching and gathering and came up with these:

    2011_12_13_00292011_12_13_0032

They were fun to make and so easy!  If you want to really enjoy yourself while you create for others, this is the project for you!  You’d better make sure you make a few for yourself.

What do you think?  Is this something you would like to make?  I have included instructions here: Download 2011_12_14_MME_Ribbon Rosette Jewelry

I demonstrated this project on Good Things Utah this morning.  I will upload the segment when it’s available this afternoon.

Since this is also part of the My Mind’s Eye Holiday Hoopla celebration there IS, of course, a giveaway!  Leave a comment on post on the My Mind’s Eye Blog by midnight, December 25, 2011.  One lucky winner the trims and brads I used on this project!

Good luck in your preparations!  I know I need it in mine. *wink*  I hope you are able to get your preparations done in time to reflect Amberupon the majesty of this season.

p.s. Come back tomorrow – I’ll share a quick, easy neighbor gift (It’s what I gave to my neighbors last year)

  • Card grouping

    IMG_3861 IMG_3863

It’s time to spread some holiday cheer and let your friends and family know how important they are to you. Nothing says LOVE like a home made card!

The Lost & Found Christmas collection with all its glittery goodness makes the most gorgeous cards. Have fun playing with the Accessory Sheet and Chipboard accessories for endless possibilities!

Every year when I am preparing my Christmas Card, I think of my dear friend, Carey. One year I was going to include photos of my boys only in my Christmas cards and she reminded me that she likes to see photos of her friends, too. I think of that as I’m picking pictures each year.

It’s also fun to include a photo of how things really are. Riley is silly and doesn’t like to look at the camera when I am “making” him. So, unless we get out to get new photos at our lot, we may just have to send a picture of him staring at the ground! It may be a lesson learned. (I know, I can dream, right?)

I am demonstrating these cards on Good Things Utah this morning. I’ll post the video on the blog when it’s ready. In the meantime, I have written instructions and included them here: Download 2011_11_29_MME_Christmas Cards

    Have a wonderful day!

  • In August, I filmed an episode of “Your Paper Life” with Amy Coon for My Craft Channel.  Guess what?  It went live today!  Click on the photo below to watch the episode!

  • I Love You

I created this layout for the My Mind’s Eye Newsletter that was released this week.  I had to take the time to document my Grandpa.  There is so much more to him than this.  I am very lucky to have had him as my Grandpa and wanted to document my memories so that my boys will know how much I love him.

I wanted to share this with you today because my Grandpa was a WWII Veteran.  He was injured twice and didn’t like to speak of the horrors he experienced while serving in the military.  I am proud of his service and grateful for the service he gave our country.

    Amber_Every Generation

A loss such as this is hard.  I want you to know that I know that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, I will see my grandpa again and it will be a joyous reunion.

Unfortunately, through this time of trial and loss of my grandpa, my heart aches because of another, almost harder loss.  The loss of cherished love ones who are living, but I don’t have the opportunity to be in their lives.  This loss is more trying because the love and desire to see them is still here, but the ability isn’t.  There is no “closure” (I’m not sure what closure is anyway since there is life after death).  I miss them and love them and wish I could talk with them as much as I miss and love and wish I could talk with my grandpa.

Our family has trials and triumphs (some you know about – others you don’t).  Through it all we are so very blessed to have the gospel in our lives and to know that we will see my grandpa (and other grandparents who have passed away).  I will keep praying to have that same knowledge with Amberthe other situation.  I miss my loved ones.

  • I am a firm believer that each holiday deserves it’s time in the spotlight. We don’t decorate the house until after Thanksgiving. We even pack up our Christmas DVD’s (we forgot this year and guess what we watched this past weekend – Elf!).

My dilemma comes with crafts. You can’t wait on crafts until after Thanksgiving. If you are like me, they won’t get done – or you’ll be finishing them on Christmas Eve while your husband wraps all the fun gifts.

So, two weeks before Thanksgiving, I found myself creating this darling advent calendar and my boys are so excited to start using it! I am so grateful that on December 1st this calendar is ready to go and know that it will be part of our family’s traditions for years to come.

I wanted this project to be bright and whimsical, so I started with our 12 Days of Christmas collection and the Limited Edition Silhouette Advent Calendar. It was so much fun decorating each box with all the fun embellishments in the 12 Days of Christmas collection.

    Advent Calendar

If you would like to make your own Advent calendar, download these instructions: Download 2011_11_10_MME

I demonstrated the advent calendar today on Good Things Utah. When it’s ready, I’ll upload the segment video here.

Guess what? Want to make your own for a discount? Silhouette is offering our readers a $10 discount if you purchase the advent calendar through their site (click here). You must use the code: EYE to receive the discount and purchase the calendar by November 11, 2011. **note: to cut the boxes, you need to have a Silhouette digital die cut machine**Amber

    Have a great day!
