  • This is one of my favorite projects! I think I’m always saying that. I guess it’s a sign that I love what I get to do. Obviously, this version of the project isn’t going to go in one of my son’s rooms, but all I have to do to make it perfect for them, is change the papers.

    How awesome!

A project that is just as cute for either a boy or girls’ room or even a family room.

I designed the alphabet décor featuring the brand new Just Sayin’ collection from My Mind’s Eye and the lovely Rhonna Farrer!

    Alpha1_4x6

This project is fairly simple, yet it makes a HUGE impact. The way the letters are arranged on my wall makes it about 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall.

What a bright and cheery way to fill a wall!

    Alpha6_4x6

(see my favorite paper? Love, love, love the gold glitter stripe)

I demonstrated this project today on Good Things Utah. I will upload the segment when it is available here:

     Instructions:

I hope you are having a fabulous summer. What a fun way to beat the heat. Get your friends together and create away!

The Just Sayin’ products will be available for purchase at your favorite craft store by the end of July!

  • Not that I’m counting down the days or anything, but there are only 6 more days of school for Neal and 26 for Riley. Hooray! I don’t know if the kids realize that we are just as excited for school to be out as they are. With the end of school comes freedom, but also extra time on their hands and that sometimes doesn’t work well with my schedule.

We have been trying to teach the boys fiscal responsibility. It’s fun to watch them earn their own money and learn how to save it. It’s hard when they waste it on frivolous things, but it’s good to see them learn those lessons now over little things.

They are always asking for ways they an earn money. I will negotiate extra chores they can do to earn money. One problem: I don’t always have cash to pay them with. It’s discouraging for them to not have an immediate reward for their efforts. I knew I had to come up with a different system. After searching the internet, I saw the solution: a Work 4 Hire Board! How genius is this!? The money and way to earn it are there ready for them to see. No waiting for me to remember to get money to pay them.

With summer break fast approaching, there will be more time to do extra chores to earn money.

With the use of My Mind’s Eye’s Now & Then and Necessities collections, this project is both GORGEOUS and quick. My favorite combination!

    photo 2 (1)

    photo 3 (3)

Isn’t the teal foil decorative tape absolutely delicious! It transforms an every day item like clothes pins and makes it something special. And I am over the moon excited about the teal glitter alphas. Can you imagine the possibilities!?

    photo 1 (3)

There are six different color schemes (silver, gold, teal, red, black/gray and wood) in the Necessities line to create with. You will love using them in your designs!

I had the opportunity to demonstrate this project on today’s Good Things Utah program. I will upload the segment here when it is available:

Want to make your own? These instructions will help you:  Work For Hire Board

As you implement this system in your family, there are two important rules to keep in mind:

    1. Regular chores must be completed

    2. Work 4 Hire chores must be completed to my satisfaction

    Have fun creating!

    —————————————————————————————–

I have been dying to play with Hazel and Ruby’s stencil-masks for a while and was thrilled to get the chance to participate in the blog hop. I have a couple of pallet art projects I will create in the future. But, since the reason for the blog hop is so special, I wanted to go a little outside the box. I used three different stencil-masks and came up with this:Bench 5_webBench 1_web

I’ve loved this bench, but after having it for almost 14 years, it was time to update or replace. What better way to update and get creative?

    003

I did some experimenting and used a little different process than the amazing video tutorial on the H&R website (click here). Just because I’m like that. I learned a few things along the way.

    Stencil-masks used:

    • Chevron
    • Blindside
    • Dear Ruby

    Primer: Rustoleum

Off-white Color: Antique White milk paint (General Finishes)

Turquoise Color: Acapulco Aqua (Kelley Moore)

    Instructions:

Lesson learned: In the tutorial, Jayme and Lindsay suggest you seal the base coat (antique white) with mod podge. Since my bench is kept outside, I used milk paint instead of acrylic paint and mod podge is water soluble, I decided I would prime the wood instead. 018038

That worked out great! Look how gorgeous:

    040

… that is until I ran out of primer and substituted white spray paint (Krylon). And then this happened… (Warning: user error!)

    photo (2)

See the difference! To be honest, I kind of liked this look. However, the intent was to bring my bench back to life, not make it look old and weathered.

Lesson learned: white spray paint is not a substitute for primer. Next time I use milk paint, I am going to use primer underneath and seal it with the polyacrylic top coat I usually apply before applying the mask and top coat of paint. Oh, well, you live and you learn. It was easy to fix my mistake. Nothing a little sand paper and more paint can’t fix!

I am demonstrating the stencil-masks on today’s Good Things Utah. When the segment is available, I will upload the link here:

p.s. Be sure to return this week to see the pillow I demonstrated on the show today all complete and added to my bench.

    Have a happy Monday!

  • I remember as a little girl getting my brother’s Peeps because none of them liked Peeps, but every year our Easter Bunny gave them to each of us. I would open the package, because a dried out peep is better, and savoring them for months.

I know that not everyone likes Peeps like I do, but even if you don’t like to eat them, you have to admit, they are cute!

Have you had a chance to see the NEW My Mind’s Eye Market Street collection? It is GORGEOUS! Beautiful gold foiled papers and embellishments. Sigh! You need to check them out if you haven’t already.

For today’s Good Things Utah project, I combined my love of peeps with my love of the new Market Street collection.

A play off a summer time favorite: the S’more!

What do you get when you mix a Chocolate bunny, a marshmallow Peep and two graham crackers? A “Smeep”!

(I think it would be delicious with a Reese’s Peanut Butter bunny – Heaven!)

  • Last month Bryan and I worked on my Valentine’s gift from last year. The gorgeous moulding in my hall! It’s so gorgeous. I just smile when I walk down it. We designed and built the mouldings on the left side a little taller so that I could have a collage wall and that the heads of the tall people that live in and visit my house won’t hit their heads on it.

    IMG_9093

The mouldings with a picture rail was one of my favorite things about my scrap room in our old house:

    2011_04_21_0026_door

I wanted to have a mixture of items on the new picture rail, not just pictures. One day I was cleaning out Riley’s room and noticed the 2 + 2 = 4 flashcard and thought about that flashcard was like our family. Two adults + two boys = our family. I knew I wanted to add that to my gallery wall. Now that my wall was complete, I just needed to decorate so I mounted a few 11 x 14 pictures on foam core and needed one last thing to complete it: my flashcard décor!

Using the ultra fresh and fun My Mind’s Eye Chalk Studio 2, I created this:

    Flashcard  IMG_9123

I love the way the vibrant colors stand out against the chalk background. The embellishments (chalk art hand) are to die for and added such a fun POP to my project.

    Flashcard_grouping

With the photo collage complete, I smile even more as I walk down the hall. And, with all the time you spend in a hall, shouldn’t it be a fun path to walk?

    IMG_9092

I have created an instruction sheet so you can make your own:  Flashcard Decor

And will add today’s Good Things Utah segment here when it is available:

Remember that you can use any number combination to personalize the project and can adjust the size to fit any space. You can also use any My Mind’s Eye collection that fits with your décor. Have fun creating!

  • I had a great time joining the My Mind’s Eye Design Team as we were featured in the brand new (and free) online magazine from Scrapbook Generations. It’s called CREATE! (what a great name) We are featured in Issue 2, February 2014. What an honor it was for Scrapbook Generation to feature the My Mind’s Eye Design Team in their second issue.

We were each given a sketch to design from. My one-page sketch was designed by Allison Davis. I had a great time creating with the sketch and the darling new Now & Then Izzy collection!

To see the entire 241 page full color online magazine and my project, follow this link:

  • One of the best scrapbooking releases from the past two years is decorative tape. It is so versatile! Today on Good Things Utah, I am demonstrating cute, beautiful Christmas décor and gifts using My Mind’s Eye decorative tape.

    image image

Aren’t these patterns to die for!?

Look how awesome the Vintage Christmas decorative tape looks on the large “25”.

    25_project_Amber Packer

    25_project_Amber Packer_CU1    25_project_Amber Packer_CU2

I picked the “25” up at a local wood craft store called Wood Connection. They are available online and at other craft stores. I decided to keep the “25” natural. You could paint it white or another light color. (dark colors will not allow the colors of the tape to show through as well)

This project used almost an entire package of tape. These numbers are LARGE, smaller numbers will use less tape.

Because I was applying the tape on a wood product instead of paper, it curled a little on the edges, so I put a thin coat of glittered mod podge on top and that solved that!

I will upload the video of today’s segment here when it is available:

    Instructions:  Download 2013_12_13_GTU_Decorative Tape Christmas_MME

I hope you like these projects as much as I do! Warning: Decorative tape is highly addicting. Side affects may include: beautiful projects and a great time. Use only when necessary (in my case, as often as possible)Amber

Happy Holidays! Have a great Friday!

  • It’s no secret that I love chalk art! Imagine my delight when My Mind’s Eye started designing an all chalk art line. What’s the only thing that could make this better? A collaboration between My Mind’s Eye and Rhonna Farrer – swoon!

This awesome collection makes it easy to design beautiful gifts, party décor and much more!

    Chalk Studio

See how much the stickers add to jars and treat bags. You can write on them using chalk (I sharpened my chalk), white pen or white pencil.

There is a 12 x 12 piece of paper that can easily be cut to fit in an 8 x 10 frame (as shown).

The chipboard embellishment, frames, twine, brads and banner kit combined to make the darling eclectic banner.

There is a darling banner kit that comes complete with every you need to make this darling banner. (“celebrate” pieces turn over and can be written on with chalk for a customized banner) I made this banner for my husband’s 40th birthday celebration, so I used the chalk side of the pink pieces. You can do the same if you want it to be girly.

    photo (1)

I also made these darling medallions to hang over the bar. They were easy and really added a festive punch. The double sided papers make it so you never get the same look.

    photo (2)

    12” medallions: 5 – 6 x 12”  pieces scored at 1”

    10” medallions: 4 – 5” x 12” pieces scored at 3/4”

    8” medallions: 3 – 4” x 12” pieces scored at 3/4”

    6” medallions: 3 – 3” x 12” pieces scored at 3/4”

    4” medallions: 2 – 2” x 12” pieces scored at 1/2”

I’ve loved designing layout and cards with this collection as well. Here is a layout that is not shown in the picture above. It uses almost every product in this collection.
