• Let’s face it… everyone is busy. In fact, it seems like time is moving faster. I guess that means that I’m getting older, right!?

There is so much we want to do and most of our time is spent doing the “have to’s” which are rewarding in their own way, but when do we get to do the “want to’s”?

    _____________________________________________

What a fun time I had appearing on Good Things Utah this morning, sharing the many beautiful options The Pot Shop has to offer. Many of you know that flower gardening is a love of mine. To me, it’s peaceful and helps me to rejuvenate. I got the love of a beautiful garden from my grandma. I was always excited to go to her house and see what was blooming.

The thing with creative people is that we need another creative avenue to relax with, but when being creative is what you do for a living, it needs to be something different. For me, it’s home décor: painting, decorating and gardening.

    ***Mother’s Day Special***

    10% off purchase May 6 – 9, 2015, excludes classes

    (Discount code: “Amber sent me”)

I love planting pots and having the instant gratification that comes with bursts of color that last the entire summer and into the fall. That love brings about a slight obsession with beautiful pots. The Pot Shop (located in Sandy and St. George) makes me feel like a kid in a candy store:

Rows and rows of beautiful, handmade pots that are made to last a lifetime. Gorgeous custom made fountains and fire pits! An entire shop of fairy garden supplies. Unique outdoor décor and a backyard bird supply.

(Unique, hand crafted metal work and a place for the kids to play while you browse)

Isn’t it gorgeous!? I could spend hours there!

So, when they asked me if I would be willing to teach fairy garden classes, I jumped at the chance. How fun! Plus, I knew that my boys would love them and I was right.

A few of the hundreds of options offered for fairy gardens:

I think it would be fun to go with friends, sisters and your mom! Give the gift of time spent together this Mother’s Day: give a class and attend with your daughter(s) and enjoy dinner afterward. Both young and grown children love fairy gardens. They are meant to be played with.

I have a secret to tell you: something happens when you and your children are creative together, their mouths open and you hear things that you wouldn’t have had you not been spending time and using your hands.

I hope to see you there! Call (801) 567-1255 to sign up. Spots are limited to 15 per class, so hurry!

Visit the St. George and Sandy stores by May 9, 2015 to enjoy 10% off your purchase (excludes classes).

  • Sometimes the simplest projects are the most fun.

I created these bowls for the My Mind’s Eye Winter CHA catalog booth, using the new On Trend collection by the fabulous Jen Nugent.

    On Trend_paper bowls

They are so much fun to make and are quick. They will make an impact on your party tables, girl’s room (jewelry, bows, etc.) or anywhere else your imagination can think of.

I was at the Let’s Create Scrapbook Expo a couple of weeks ago and had a few people who had seen the bowls in person ask how to make them. I thought it would be fun to demonstrated them during my Good Things Utah segment today.

The pattern was designed to be printed on 12×12 paper, but you can change the size larger or smaller.

  • Love, love, love this project!

We don’t have a baby in the house anymore. Riley loved putting the paper on the cutting mat and helping me peel the airplane shapes after they were cut with the Silhouette.

Riley really wants airplanes hanging in his room, just not as a mobile. Airplane Mobile_Amber Packer

I used the “Hello World” collection from My Mind’s Eye. A definite must have for travel and boy projects!

The papers are double sided. If you want to enjoy both patterns, cut out your airplane shape as follows in your Silhouette of other cutting machine. (or hand cut)

    AirplaneMobile_Silhouette

If you would like both sides of the airplane to have the same pattern, cut out two airplane bodies (mirror images) as follows:

    AirplaneMobile2_Silhouette

In the typed instructions, I suggested using a little hot glue to keep the wings in place, while stepping out the project for Good Things Utah tomorrow, I thought of this idea:

    FullSizeRenderFullSizeRender_1

(Both methods work, it’s a matter of personal preference)

To create the mobile topper, wrap jute around a 12” wooden embroidery hoop) and secure every 1 – 2” with a small dab of hot glue.

If you would like to create your own, mobile, download these instructions and watch the Good Things Utah segment. I will upload the segment here, when it is available.

Marlie, please send an email to bloominmemories@yahoo.com and I will arrange getting your prize to you!

    Amber

p.s. I have blogged the “bonus” project instructions.

  • I was worried that I might not have enough to demonstrate on Good Things Utah, since the Valentine Catcher was a fairly simple project. So… I created a back up project using a technique I’ve wanted to use for a while.

    photo 1

I know you’ve seen them the darling Valentine’s Banners using paper strips and a stapler. (HINT: they are awesome hanging from the ceiling)

I wanted to use the same concept, but come up with a new twist on it.

As a general rule: Cut two 1” x 5” paper strips per heart.

For this project, you will need:

My Mind’s Eye Fancy That “Pearl” Bridesmaid paper

My Mind’s Eye Fancy That “I Do” Love You Gold Foiled paper

    image

    Stapler and paper trimmer

    Step 1:

    • Cut 16 – 1” x 5” solid gold strips from “I Do” gold foil paper
    • Cut 16 – 1” x 5” pink with gold foil strips “Pearl” Bridesmaid paper

    IMG_6462

Step 2: You will need to figure out what order the papers should go in. This is how mine are stacked to start:

(left strip is on the bottom, right strip is on the top, these sides facing up.

    IMG_6469

Step 3: Stack and staple bottom

    IMG_6468

Step 4: Bring two outer pieces down and staple the bottom together. See how this formed a heart shape. Do not fold or bend paper, it will ruin the curve.

    IMG_6464

Step 5: Bring two inner pieces in, add the next two strips and staple as shown.

    IMG_6466

Step 6: Repeat step 4 until desired length is achieved.

**For my décor, each strip of hearts contains EIGHT hearts**

    IMG_6465

Step 6: Combine two heart banners to make heart shape.

Mount on white paper and frame

I hope you enjoy this project!

  • On Good Things Utah today I demonstrated one of my favorite projects I created for our catalog shoot.

I love this project because it’s elegantly simple. It also uses the GORGEOUS Fancy That line.

Know anyone who has a wedding coming up? Designed in gold foil, blush pink, rosy pink, gray and black, this line is on trend and a definite “must”  for any wedding.

    Valentine Catcher

As always, here are the instructions so that you can make your own Valentine Catcher:

I will upload the segment here when it is available this afternoon:

I think this project would also be darling left up all year long! Or, as mentioned in the segment, as a backdrop in a girls room – or the buffet backdrop at a wedding!? The possibilities are endless.

Guess what? I am giving away the Good Things Utah sample!

To enter, simply leave a comment on this or any post from my blog between now and Monday, February 9 at Midnight MST. I will randomly draw a winner and ship it to you so you can enjoy it for Valentine’s Day.

You may have noticed a “bonus” project from today’s segment.

  • DIY Designer Pumpkins_grouping

When you put so much effort into decorating your house, how can you add “regular” pumpkins in your home décor? Especially when you can create designer pumpkins so easily! Not that there is anything wrong with “regular” pumpkins. *wink*

Hazel and Ruby stencil-masks and Chalk Art Tool Kit combined with faux pumpkins and paints are a winning combination in my book!

I like to decorate for Halloween in black and white, but wanted to add a punch of color, so I added GOLD. With a few of our grandparent’s gold antiques in our house, it’s a natural fit. Besides, it’s definitely an IT color at the moment!

    Guess what!?
My friends at Hazel and Ruby are offering a discount for GTU viewers and my blog readers!  Head over to www.hazelandruby.com for 30% off your order of stencil-masks, the Chalk Art kit and so much more! Simply enter code GTUOCTOBER at checkout.  Good through the end of the month!
(FYI… I get no proceeds from their sales)

    DIY Designer Pumpkins_Gold Polka Dots

    Gold with white polka dots:

I painted the pumpkin white (I bought a white one, but it was more cream than I would like). I the sealed the white paint with mod podge and added the Confetti Pattern Stencil-Mask randomly. I painted the pumpkin using gold leaf paint. (FYI – gold leaf paint does not clean off as easily as gold metallic acrylic paint)

    DIY Designer Pumpkins_White Bats

    Stencil-Mask, Cut Your Own Stencilsphoto 1 (2)

    White with black bats:

I painted the first layer black, and cut out my own bat masks using a Cut Your Own Stencil Mask and my Silhouette die. I then applied the bats to the pumpkin and painted the pumpkin white. I then painted the stem gold.

    DIY Designer Pumpkins_Chalk

    photo 2 (2)  photo 2

    Chalk Pumpkin:

I sprayed this pumpkin with 3 coats of black chalk paint. When dry, I spelled “spooky” using the La Patessiere Alpha stencil-mask (such a beautiful on-trend font). Love it! I used the chalk marker from the Chalk Art Tool Kit to trace around the letters. I then removed the letters and filled in the letters using the chalk marker.
