• General Conference has been inspirational so far.  One thing that has really touched me as something I need to remember when interacting with my children is this:

  • Welcome to the first My Mind’s Eye blog hop! My name is Amber Packer and this is your next to last "hop"!  I am sure you have enjoyed the fabulous creations the other designers have shared with you.

I just LOVE spring.  It’s a time of renewal.  I love watching earth slowly wake up and the kids begin to play outside.  It’s also a time where I pick myself back up and renew my exercise routine, cleaning habits, etc.  This weekend I will be renewing my efforts to be a better me.

Each Easter we go to my husband’s Grandma’s house for a gigantic Easter egg hunt!  Her house has gigantic trees and a creek runs through her property.  It’s the perfect backdrop for the BIG hunt!

The boys are in outfits that look good together, so I didn't change the photos to black & white, but with the combination of blue and orange, I decided to go a bit non-traditional and use Ooh La La's beautiful fall colors for this Easter layout.  I think it works!

The papers are all Ooh La La with one new So Sophie Graceful paper thrown in.  I've used the Ooh La La Accessory sheet, Brown Lush Flocked and Blue Lush Chipboard alphabets and a bling swirl from Zva Creative.

    EVERYONE is a WINNER!

Ella Publishing is celebrating the release of their 14 idea book with a FREE Idea Book:

“Ella has carefully chosen one page, project, or tip from each of her first 14 products, and she’s assembled them all into an incredible FREE Super Sampler!”

    Have a WONDERFUL Friday!

  • The girls at My Mind’s Eye and Ella Publishing did a blog swap today.  We exchanged products (their fabulous ebooks) and posted projects on each other’s blogs.  My project was shown on the Ella Publishing Blog

I had a hard time narrowing down my choice of books to just one.  I finally decided on three books: Stretch Your Sketches, Text Tricks and Quick & Creative Quizzes.  Read the Ella blog to see how I was inspired from the three ebooks.  (Up next: 40 Tips for Better Photos!)

  • IMG_2986 shamrocks

When I was on Good Things Utah last week, I demonstrated how to cover wooden eggs with paper.  I thought it would be fun to keep the same tree up all spring long by adding shamrocks and flowers made from paper.  QuicKutz has so many fun dies including this super cute shamrock.  It’s a revolution die, so it’s a great size – 3 1/2” across.

I used Green Lush paper, ribbon and adhesive rhinestones from My Mind’s Eye.  I’ve been using Green Lush lately and love, love, love it!

Also, some of you don’t like playing with mod podge (SHOCKING – I know!).  So I thought I’d use the Nesting Eggs die from QuicKutz to make some paper eggs.  I used the Quite Contrary – Jack and Jill paper from My Mind’s Eye, Green Lush Adhesive rhinestones, Green Lush Decorative Brads and Blue Lush ribbon.

The flower is cut using the Nesting Flower die.  I scrunched up the pieces and put the pearl brad in the center.

    Have a great weekend!

  • It’s not just a TV show and they’re not just for angels.

For my My Mind’s Eye blog challenge sample last November, I added wings to these pictures of Riley jumping in the gigantic pile of leaves in our yard.  It thought it added a fun touch and enhanced the feeling of movement in the pictures (at least that’s what I was going for).

    image

    imageimage

Fast forward to last week… I got a call from my friend, Nat, telling me that I had to see what Haylee Bean did with a picture of Neal.  She added wings!

    image

I love the look of concern on Neal’s face.  I think it makes him look like he’s a guardian angel who is feeling a little bit dejected.  It really fits his personality.  He tries so hard to always do what’s right and is really hard on himself if he isn’t perfect.  What he doesn’t realize is that it is his desire to do what’s right that makes him perfect – “perfectly imperfect”.

I’m not sure where I got my wings from.  I think they are from House of 3, however, I couldn’t find them on their website.  The wings that Haylee used can be found at vol. 25 in her “take flight” overlay set.

Have a fun time playing with wings in your projects!  You just mayAmber find me using them more often, too!

  • We have many birthdays in our family this month.  10 to be exact.  Most of them I will have contact with on their special day and others that I will not.

I want to let my brother (and his wife next week) know that I hope he has a happy birthday.  That I miss him, his family and that I love them.  I wish I could have seen him today.

  • Today is a GOOD day!  I went on Good Things Utah for My Mind’s Eye this morning and demonstrated this fun Easter/Spring Tree:

    Easter Tree setting_web

    Egg_Flower_web Egg_Houndstooth_web Egg_Rhinestone_web Egg_Rick Rack_web Flower_web Flower cu_web

I bought the wood eggs at Michaels.  I bet they are in your local craft store.  The ones I bought are about 2 3/4” tall and come white.  I wanted to find a way to cover them with My Mind’s Eye paper.  I found that if you get the paper slightly wet, like you are making paper flowers, it’s MUCH more pliable.  If you can’t find the wooden eggs, flat paper eggs decorated similarly will be PERFECT, too!  (QuicKutz has a nesting egg die.  I bet the other die cut machines have something similar)

If you don’t celebrate Easter, I was thinking it would be so fun to hang shamrocks, and paper flowers and make this a Spring Tree.

A fun tip from my Mother-in-law:  My cute MIL has had an Easter Tree every year that I can remember.  One of my friends told me last night that it is a German tradition.  My husband’s grandparents lived in Germany while serving a mission.  I need to ask her if that’s where her tradition started.  I’m sorry I digressed!

Anyway, I used fake forsythia and cherry blossoms.  My Mother-in-law said that if you have a fun, spring flowering tree or bush in your yard you can cut off a few branches and put them in water.  The warmth of your home will force them to bloom early and you will enjoy a beautiful, living tree in your home.

I have typed up detailed instructions that also include pictures.  All you have to do is click here to download the instructions from the My Mind’s Eye blog.

Later this afternoon, when the video is available, we’ll add the the video to the left column.  You can also click here to read the segment on the Good Things Utah website.

I hope you enjoy this project!
