Not that I’m counting down the days or anything, but there are only 6 more days of school for Neal and 26 for Riley. Hooray! I don’t know if the kids realize that we are just as excited for school to be out as they are. With the end of school comes freedom, but also extra time on their hands and that sometimes doesn’t work well with my schedule.
We have been trying to teach the boys fiscal responsibility. It’s fun to watch them earn their own money and learn how to save it. It’s hard when they waste it on frivolous things, but it’s good to see them learn those lessons now over little things.
They are always asking for ways they an earn money. I will negotiate extra chores they can do to earn money. One problem: I don’t always have cash to pay them with. It’s discouraging for them to not have an immediate reward for their efforts. I knew I had to come up with a different system. After searching the internet, I saw the solution: a Work 4 Hire Board! How genius is this!? The money and way to earn it are there ready for them to see. No waiting for me to remember to get money to pay them.
With summer break fast approaching, there will be more time to do extra chores to earn money.
With the use of My Mind’s Eye’s Now & Then and Necessities collections, this project is both GORGEOUS and quick. My favorite combination!
Isn’t the teal foil decorative tape absolutely delicious! It transforms an every day item like clothes pins and makes it something special. And I am over the moon excited about the teal glitter alphas. Can you imagine the possibilities!?
There are six different color schemes (silver, gold, teal, red, black/gray and wood) in the Necessities line to create with. You will love using them in your designs!
I had the opportunity to demonstrate this project on today’s Good Things Utah program. I will upload the segment here when it is available:
Want to make your own? These instructions will help you: Work For Hire Board
As you implement this system in your family, there are two important rules to keep in mind:
1. Regular chores must be completed
2. Work 4 Hire chores must be completed to my satisfaction
Have fun creating!
